Ferrous Metals

Ferrous metals have high durability and tensile strength. This makes them the perfect material during car manufacturing. If you’re getting ready to prepare your car for scrapping, make sure to collect the ferrous metals in one recycling bin. For instance, steel is a ferrous metal. So dismantle your car’s brakes, wheels and roof to put them in the ferrous metal bin. Exercise proper caution while dismantling these car parts. You don’t want to end up with an injury while trying to pry apart the braking system.

Non–Ferrous Metals

Non-ferrous metals don’t contain any traces of iron in them. This makes them highly resistant to rust and corrosion, as compared to the ferrous metals. So before you contact the car scrapping company, make sure you collect these metals in a separate bin. Take apart your car’s aluminum rims, engine and copper wiring.

Similarly, you can also conduct a magnet test to make sure you get all the non-ferrous metals in the recycling bin. As a rule of thumb, any metal that doesn’t stick to the magnet is a non-ferrous metal.

Plastic Parts

The plastic parts of your car include lights, bumpers, dashboard and gas tank. They are usually removed before the shredding process at the junk car recycling facility. But if you want, you can also remove these plastic materials yourself beforehand. These will then be melted down to produce new plastic products.

Though fun, removing all the parts of your car for scrapping can be a long, complicated process. It can also be dangerous, considering you have to dismantle all the car parts yourself.
